Side Effect Management & Safety Support

Side Effect Management & Safety Support

Most individuals tolerate GLP-1 medication well. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal and typically occur during dose escalation. These may include:

  • Nausea
  • Reduced appetite
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Reflux or bloating

Symptoms are usually mild to moderate and often improve as the body adjusts.

Managing Common Side Effects

We provide structured guidance to support tolerability, including:

  • Portion size adjustment
  • Slower eating patterns
  • Hydration strategies
  • Protein prioritisation
  • Constipation management
  • Temporary dose stabilisation where required

Where clinically appropriate, additional medication may be prescribed to manage side effects.Dose escalation will not proceed if tolerability is poor.

When Treatment May Be Adjusted

If side effects are:

  • Persistent
  • Severe
  • Impacting hydration or daily function

The dose may be maintained, reduced or temporarily paused pending clinical review.Patient safety takes priority over rapid dose progression.

Urgent Symptoms

Clear guidance is provided on red flag symptoms requiring urgent medical assessment, including:

  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Persistent vomiting
  • Sudden visual changes
  • Signs of dehydration
